McGreal Begins Squad Reshaping

Loft amongst quartet leaving north Essex

8 May 2018

Colchester United Head Coach John McGreal has started work on reshaping his squad for next season.

The season only ended on Saturday afternoon, but McGreal has wasted no time as he looks towards the 2018/19 campaign.

Four players that have not featured in the U's squad over the past few months, Doug Loft, Denny Johnstone, Craig Slater and Tommy O'Sullivan, will not be offered new deals once their current contracts expire in June.

Loft, who joined from Gillingham to give the U's midfield some real experience, has had his time blighted by injury over the course of his two year stay.

Craig Slater and Denny Johnstone both joined in the same summer 2016 transfer window as Doug, and have also found appearances hard to come by this season.

Both returned to their native Scotland on loan, Denny last August and Craig in the January transfer window, and will be looking for new challenges in their football careers.

O'Sullivan is the other of the quartet to be released, having spent the past months on loan at Torquay United after falling behind others in the pecking order at the U's.

Colchester United would like to thank all four for their hard work, and wish them all the best for the future.
