John Eyeing Cup Progress

Boss keen to record FA Cup win

9 November 2018

Colchester United boss John McGreal is targeting Emirates FA cup progress on Saturday - but knows his side face one of the toughest ties of the round.

The U's come into the game in great form, with six wins in their last eight matches, but face an Accrington Stanley side that have had a strong start to the season, sitting outside of the play-off spots on goal difference.

"Accrington had a good cup win in midweek to set themselves up for this one, and we come into the match in good shape ourselves, so both teams will be keen to get through," John said ahead of the match.

"Everyone wants to emulate what they did last season and they've had a good start with their results in League One. John and Jimmy have done a terrific job."

The U's head to Lancashire in the automatic promotion spots in League Two and John is keen that a cup run can support that good form, rather than distract from it.

John added: "We'll be going up there with a full complement, other than Luke Norris, and it should be set up to be a good game of football.

"We're going with a plan, having looked at what they've done so far this season, and we'll be keen to put on a performance to get through.

"We haven't had much in the way of cup runs recently, so we know the prize money that's at stake in this competition and that could certainly help in January."
