U18s Beaten By Watford

Sayer and Thomas on target for the U's

12 November 2018

A young Colchester United U18s side were beaten in their latest home game, with Watford taking the points this time.

The U's team included two first year scholars and three U15s in the squad and they fell behind after seven minutes when a ball fell fortunately for a Watford player to tuck home on seven minutes.

The Hornets continued to press and got their second just before the half hour mark.

Ryan Cassidy, who had scored for Watford's U23s at the U's stadium earlier in the week, repeated the feat at Florence Park as he beat Ted Collins to make it 2-0.

Cassidy added a third five minutes later, as his effort from the left found the far corner.

The U's pulled it back to 3-1 as Harvey Sayer struck a fierce shot past Dante Baptiste to reduce the arrears.

The home side's hopes of a comeback were hit seven minutes after the restart, as Watford made it 4-1. Collins tipped a free kick onto the post, but Sam Sesay was on hand to score.

It took another twenty minutes for any further scoring, with Dominic Hutchinson adding a fifth for the Hornets, slipping a low shot into the net.

The U's kept going, though, and goalscorer Sayer turned provider as he set up Donnell Thomas to beat Baptiste low to his right.

That was the end of the scoring, as Watford took all three points.
