Noah Chilvers netted from the penalty spot on Monday, but it wasn't enough to prevent a defeat for the U's U23s at Sheffield Wednesday.
The young U's fell behind after just two minutes as the unfortunate Ollie Kensdale turned into his own net from a low cross.
However, the U's were on the front foot in the second half until Wednesday went two ahead through Morgan Fox on 77 minutes.
The U's were not to be quelled, though, and got back into the game through Chilvers' spot kick after a foul on Andre Hassanally.
But time ran out as the U's fell to defeat.
