Colchester United fell to defeat in their penultimate game of the league season on Monday afternoon, as Burnley ran out 3-0 winners.
With England - and former Bury Town - goalkeeper Nick Pope between the sticks, Burnley took the lead just before the half hour mark, as Rob Harker reacted quickest to a knock down to break the deadlock.
That chance came just after Pope had made a big save for the home side, and it proved to be the only goal of the first half as the Clarets went in one goal ahead.
And Harker extended the lead on 70 minutes, when he moved onto Dan Agyei's pass to slot home past Callum Coulter.
The U's kept pushing, but were three behind late on in the game, when Ben Woods scored from just inside the box.
The U's team featured four triallists as they look to shape their U23s side for next season.
