Our friends from Colchester based charity Boots2Africa return on Saturday for the visit of Cambridge United.
As we head for a new grassroots season, they’re asking U’s fans to have a good clear out at their club and at home to donate pre-loved boots, trainers, astros and kits so they can continue to support their 28 benefactor organisations in 15 African nations and territories.
From a simple idea on a Sunday morning, in just short of three seasons they’ve amassed and dispatched over 40,000 items of sports kit, including nearly 12,000 pairs of boots!
Iain Finch co-founder of Boots2Africa told us: "We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved at Boots2Africa and it’s thanks to Colchester United, the Football in the Community Team and U’s fans who got behind us in 2016.
"That has in part seen us to where we are now with their very significant contributions of over 400 pairs of Boots and literally bagfulls of kits and that in turn that has inspired many others in the local Grassroots football community to get in touch and do the same; thank you and keep it going as the new season begins by donating on Saturday."
If you can’t make it on the Saturday, don’t worry you can still donate at the Football in the Community 4G pitch at Shrub End or Club Reception.
If you’re from a grassroots club wanting to set up your own donation event get in touch with Iain Finch by email, firstname.lastname@example.org and check the website www.boots2africa.co.uk to see their pre-season tournament diary where you can donate too!
