U23s Battle Back Against Burnley

28 August 2019

On a baking hot sunny day at Florence Park, the U’s entertained a Burnley side who had drawn both their first two matches 1-1, and battled back to earn a point.

The visitors took the lead after thirteen minutes when a shot by Rob Harker was blocked by Bailey Vose, but Ali Koiki was on hand to put away the rebound.

Six minutes later, it was 2-0. Tunde Bayode laid the ball inside to 16 year old Lewis Richardson hit a superb strike from around 25 yards which was always curling away from the dive of keeper Vose

Trailing by two goals at the break, the U’s rallied back well against a Burnley side managed by Steve Stone.

The home team struck back as Michael Fernandes broke down the right and was fouled just inside the box, and he duly put away the resulting penalty kick, sending the keeper the wrong way midway into the second half.

The U's persisted and drew level nine minutes from full time as Danny Collinge found Callum Jones, who beat the keeper down to his right.
