U's face Red Devils on New Year's Day

31 December 2019

Colchester United take on Crawley Town in the first game of 2020

It will be the third time this season the two sides have clashed, with a win for each in the two games played at the People's Pension Stadium.

Crawley won the League Two fixture 2-1 back in October, before the U's got revenge in the 3-1 win in the Carabao Cup clash less than three weeks later.

Since that league win against the U's, Crawley have won just once more in League Two - the emphatic 4-0 win against Northampton Town on Boxing Day.

The U's won't be facing the same Crawley manager this time round, with Gabriele Cioffe being replaced by John Yems at the beginning of December.

He has only lost once in his five games in charge and John McGreal, U's Head Coach, is expecting a tough test from the New Year visitors to the JobServe Community Stadium.

He told the official website: "As always, we will have to fight for everything we get against them, they have looked tough to beat recently and have had a decent festive period so far."

"The big win against Northampton was followed up by a draw away at Grimsby, so John has got them playing and we'll have to be on our game to get the win we want.

"We have already seen that they have some dangerous players from the two matches we've had against them - I'm expecting another difficult one this time round."
