Poku Pens New Deal

Young forward signs new U's contract

5 December 2019

Kwame Poku has signed a new deal at Colchester United

The eighteen year old has put pen to paper on a new contract, which extends his time in north Essex until the summer of 2022, subject to the paperwork being ratified by the relevent authorities .

Having moved to the club from non-league Worthing, Poku burst onto the first team scene and has already become a marked man.

His first appearance for the U's came at the beginning of September in the Leasing.com game at Gillingham, and he hasn't looked back since.

Ahead of Saturday's League Two encounter against Salford City, he has made seventeen appearances and scored two goals.

And Head Coach John McGreal said it has been easy to keep the lively forward involved with the squad.

"The new contract is reward for the performances he has given us since coming into the squad.

"He's a real talent, and for a player of his age, has already shown that there is a real end product to all the skill we know he possesses.

"As well as the couple of goals he has scored, he's got assists, and he is already being flagged up by opposition sides as one to watch.

"He continues to learn and get better and as long as he continues to work hard at improving, we've got a real player on our hands."
