Salford City Up Next

League newcomers head down to north Essex

6 December 2019

Colchester United take on Salford City on Saturday

The EFL newcomers visit the JobServe Community Stadium for the first time in their history, having won four promotions in five seasons to reach League Two.

After a slow start to their first campaign in the fourth tier, they have come into form recently, and currently sit just two points and two places behind tenth placed U's.

Owned since 2014 by the 'Class of 92' Manchester United superstars, (Scholes, the Nevilles, Butt, Giggs), and David Beckham from earlier this year, Salford are still looking to go even higher in the football pyramid.

The U's have been without a home league fixture for six weeks, and U's Head Coach John McGreal is looking forward to getting back to the league campaign.

He told the official website: "Before our cup exploits, we were on a decent run of league results, and we want that to continue this weekend."

"We know it will be a tough test against Salford because of the quality they possess, especially in the top areas of the pitch.

"It's obvious that they had ambitions of going even higher, because they have brought in such an experienced manager from the leagues above us.

"Graham has done a great job in getting them into the league and now to have got them going at the new level."

"We will have to perform well to get the positive result we want but the lads are determined to do that in front of the home fans."
