Sleep Out Event Raises Thousands

Community comes together for stadium event

11 February 2019

A fundraising event held at the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday night has raised thousands of pounds for two great causes.

Members of Colchester United Football in the Community staff, charity workers from the Colchester Rough Sleepers Group and U's supporters all came together to participate in the event.

And Callum Murphy, Health and Inclusion Development Officer for Football in the Community said: "This was another excellent Sleep Out Event, raising £4,593.18 so far.

"Again, the Sleep Out provided another brilliant opportunity to bring different members of the community together.

"An enjoyable night was had by all, teams took part in a quiz and an extremely competitive game of Concourse Cricket, before settling down for the night in the stands of Jobserve Community Stadium.

"The event showed the conditions that the homeless are dealing with on a day to day basis and put into perspective the day to day luxuries we take for granted.

"The money raised will go a long way for supporting both Colchester Rough Sleepers Group and Colchester United Football In The Community disability and inclusion programmes."
