U23s Fight Back To Beat R's

Dunne and Hutchinson get the goals

28 January 2019

Colchester United U23s came from behind for the second game running to pick up all three points and make it back to back wins.

Visitors QPR opened the scoring after eighteen minutes, when forward Amrit Bansal-McNulty slid a shot beyond Dillon Barnes to find the back of the net.

The U's came close midway through the half when Callum Jones turned Ryan Clampin's shot just wide, and it was the start of a good spell for the home team.

Todd Miller and Dean Ager both forced good saves out of visiting stopper Marcin Brzozowski, and the U's were unlucky not to be level at the break.

They carried on in the same vein after the break, with Ollie Sims bending an effort just over the bar on 56 minutes.

Louis Dunne then saw a flick from a corner go agonisingly wide, but he did draw the U's level on 70 minutes.

Miller's driving run into the box ended with him being tripped and Dunne kept his calm to slot home the penalty.

The U's were in the ascendancy now and could have won it with six minutes to go, but Miller skewed his shot off target at the far post.

But two minutes later, they were ahead thanks to an immediate impact from substitute Jake Hutchinson.

He ran into the box to meet a low cross from Dean Ager and secure the win for the U's.

U's: Barnes, Bakary, Kensdale, Agboola, Ager, Anderson, Dunne, Miller, Sims (Hyde 61), Ager, Jones (Hutchinson 86)
