U's Flash - Gerken Is Back

Keeper to rejoin, after release from Ipswich

13 July 2019

Dean Gerken is due to become a Colchester United player, pending paperwork completion and ratification

The popular keeper has been training with the U's for the past couple of weeks, and is expected to play a part in Saturday's friendly at Cefn Druids, before joining in the Open Day celebrations on Sunday.

An experienced keeper was on the agenda for the U's this summer, and as well as his on pitch experience, he is also very familiar with Colchester United.

He was part of the promotion winning squad for the U's in 2006, making fourteen appearances including the finale at Yeovil.

Having been a regular starter during the U's Championship years, he returned to that tier when he signed for Bristol City in the summer of 2009.

After spending four of the past ten years in the West Country, he headed closer to home with the move to Ipswich Town.

Over 100 appearances followed, before he and Town parted company at the end of the 18/19 campaign.
