U's Flash: Omar Joins Hometown Team

Defender pens two year deal

1 July 2019

Colchester United are delighted to have bolstered their defensive ranks with the towering presence of central defender Omar Sowumni.

The 23-year-old has arrived from Yeovil Town, having spent four years in the West Country with the Glovers, including some time as captain.

His arrival on a two year deal on Monday afternoon sees him return to his home town, having been born in Colchester and attending school at Philip Morant.

The 6'6 defender began life in Ipswich Town's Academy, and spent time on loan at Braintree Town and Lowestoft Town before leaving Portman Road in search of first team football.

2017/18 was his most successful season to date, having played 46 times in all competitions.

Last season was a difficult one for Omar, with an ankle injury keeping him out of action from December through to the start of March in a tough season for Yeovil.

He now returns to Colchester and will be aiming to make a big impression on and off the pitch!
