Saunders Retires From Football

Midfielder brings lengthy career to an end

21 June 2019

Midfielder Sam Saunders has brought the curtain down on a successful professional career, having announced his retirement on Friday afternoon.

Sam, who made his name at Dagenham, before impressing with Brentford and Wycombe, made a big impact at Colchester United during his stay at the club, having signed a short term deal in February.

The U's had discussed with Sam about extending that stay, but the 35-year-old has decided that the time is right to move onto the next stage of his life.

We wish Sam well and look forward to seeing what comes next for him.
