Midfielder Sam Saunders has brought the curtain down on a successful professional career, having announced his retirement on Friday afternoon.
Sam, who made his name at Dagenham, before impressing with Brentford and Wycombe, made a big impact at Colchester United during his stay at the club, having signed a short term deal in February.
The U's had discussed with Sam about extending that stay, but the 35-year-old has decided that the time is right to move onto the next stage of his life.
