U's Flash: Winger Luke Signs Up

Maltese international signs two year deal

26 June 2019

Colchester United are delighted to welcome winger Luke Gambin to the club, as he arrives from Luton Town.

26-year-old Luke arrives with two promotions under his belt and will give the U's another attacking option.

U's Head Coach John McGreal said: "We are really pleased to have signed Luke up.

"We originally enquired about him in January so when we knew he would be available this summer, we were quick to move in for him.

"He's been away with Malta and has spoken to one or two other clubs so we've had to bide our time a little, but he was delighted to sign for us here at Colchester.

"He is left footed, so will give us some balance on that side of the pitch, but can play across the attacking third, so his flexibility will be a positive asset for us."

The wide man started his career with Barnet and made his debut in 2012 when he replaced former U's forward Scott McGleish.

He helped the Bees to promotion in the National League in 2014/15, as they returned to the EFL after relegation two years before.

With over 100 appearances for Barnet under his belt, he opted to sign for Luton in January 2017 and, in his first season there, the Hatters made the play-offs.

The 2017/18 campaign was a successful one for Luke and Luton, as they finished second in League Two to earn promotion.

2018/19 saw Luke loaned out to Crawley Town, where he starred against the U's in the game on New Year's Day.

He has played 17 times so far for Malta, most recently against Sweden and Romania over the summer months, and he will now look to make a big impression in U's colours.

He will become a Col U player from July 1st, subject to paperwork clearance.
