All About The Burger From Space!

How the U's made national headlines - with a bit of good fortune

29 March 2019

Colchester United made national headlines in the most unexpected circumstances this week - all thanks to a burger bought in Sheffield.

Youtuber Tom Stanniland launched a burger into space for the latest video on his Killem channel, aiming to track its progress and where it ended up.

But he couldn't have expected to have seen it land in Colchester United's Florence Park training ground, and a three hours drive later on Wednesday afternoon, he was reunited with his burger and his Go Pro camera.

Tom, who has 2.7m subscribers on his hugely popular channel launched the video of the story on Thursday evening, with the U's media team following suit with a thread on Twitter about the crazy story.

And the tale of the intergalatic beef burger has gone viral, with BBC Sport, Sky Sports News, BBC Breakfast, ITN News, Russia Today and a host of TV, radio stations and newspapers from around the world all picking up on the unusual tale.

With nearly 4.0m Twitter impressions already racked up on this story - and Tom's video growing by the hour in terms of views - #SpaceBurger has trended throughout the day and captured the attention, and it's likely to roll on for a little while just yet.

Who knows what we'll get up to for next weekend's game against Oldham!
