East Anglian derby test for U's

29 March 2019

Colchester United have the short journey into Cambridgeshire this weekend, taking on Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium.

As the season ticks into it's final furlong, John McGreal and the U's will be looking for a win to close the gap to the top seven in the League Two table.

They currently sit four points adrift, but hope that gap will diminish with Play-Off challengers facing each other in fixtures elsewhere.

Cambridge United will also want the points though, as they try and distance themselves from the relegation places.

Over 1,000 fans are expected to make the journey from north Essex, so there should be a fantastic following for the McGreal's squad.

And the U's Head Coach is really looking forward to the game, saying: "There's going to be a great atmosphere. Our away following has been fantastic wherever we've gone, even when it's a five or six hour trip, so I'm expecting it to be very loud for this one."

I'm told that we will fill the end behind the goal, so we should be able to make at least as much noise as the home support there."

"It's on the pitch that we have to do the business for them though, and we'll be doing all we can to get the positive result we all want.

"We've had a great reaction from the players in training this week, and that must now carry on into the game.

"Everyone is really looking forward to it, and we're all determined to close that gap as quickly as possible."
