EFL Trust + Sport And Learn

1 March 2019

Our Kinder + Sport Move & Learn Programme has been delivered to over 900 Key Stage 2 pupils in over 15 primary schools across Colchester and North East Essex.

The concept of the programme is a theory and practical based approach over six weeks, where we touch on topics such as the body, organs and nutrition to give children a rounded education of how they can keep themselves happy in the future.

As well as widening the knowledge inside the classroom, we have also looked to introduce them to new sports on the playground, therefore we have delivered football, handball and dodgeball in two week blocks alongside the programme.

The feedback we have received so far has been fantastic and all the children have enjoyed learning about different part of themselves and their diet as well as taking part in sports they would not otherwise have been exposed to.

As well as the delivery in schools, we have also invited participants to a number of Kinder + Sport Move & Learn Penalty Shoot Out days throughout the season, where they have had the chance to take on their classmates or other schools during half time at a home Colchester United match.

This joined up approach with the football club also came to fruition for our Kinder + Sport Move & Learn designated family matchday which we held in April 2017 for our match against Doncaster Rovers.

We invited all of the participants throughout the programme to the match, where we had arranged for some free NHS Health Checks for those who wanted as well as a special half time handball session for some lucky participants.

We are currently awaiting details on this programme for 2017/18 but, if you are interested in getting involved, don’t hesitate to contact tom.tayler@colchesterunited.net
