U's Flash: Mika To Depart

French forward one of two to leave this summer

20 May 2019

Colchester United forward Mikael Mandron will depart the U's this summer, as his contract with the club comes to an end.

The French forward played 95 times during his two years at the club, starting 66 times and scoring 12 goals.

However, he will now leave the JobServe Community Stadium, as the U's start to shape their squad for next season.

"Mika has been brilliant for us and his hard work and graft has been first class," Head Coach John McGreal said.

"He is one of the first on the training ground and last off, so you can't question the effort he's put in.

"However, decisions have to be made in football and that is probably the hardest part of the game. We wish him well in the future."

Mika is one of two first team players released by the U's, with winger Ryan Gondoh also moving onto pastures new.

The tricky wide man joined the club in January 2018, having impressed with nearby Maldon & Tiptree.

He made his debut against Swindon at the end of the 2017/18 season and went on to make a total of eight appearances in U's colours.

Ryan also had a loan spell with Halifax Town at the end of 2018/19 and will now seek his next club.

Having also confirmed details of the U23s departures last week, all other players at the club are either already contracted for the 2019/20 campaign or offers have been made to those who are out of contract this summer.

This includes players with club-led options on their contracts and the U's will continue to release details on progress on contract negotiations when appropriate.
