Gerken Wins Carabao Award

Player of the Round accolade for Dean

15 October 2019

Colchester United keeper Dean Gerken has been voted Carabao Player of the Round

He made vital saves, helping the U's keep a clean sheet against Tottenham Hotspur in the recent Third Round tie, and went on to save Christian Eriksen's penalty in the shoot-out.

That led to the U's winning the tie 4-3 on penalties, and gave them a place in the Fourth Round against Crawley Town.

Gerken was one of four nominees for Player of the Round, alongside Danny Ings, Max Power and Reece James, and he edged out Ings to win the vote and award.

After being given the trophy on Monday morning, He told the official website: "It's great to be recognised for a decent performance, but it's more important that the team performed and we got through."

"Promotion is always going to be our priority, but a cup run is a bit of a bonus and beating Spurs was a fantastic achievement for us."
