U's prepared for Newport visit

25 October 2019

Colchester United's next test is against Newport County on Saturday

The visitors to the JobServe Community Stadium have started the season well, and will provide John McGreal and his side with a tough test in the Sky Bet League Two clash.

McGreal praised his counterpart Michael Flynn when asked about the game on Thursday lunchtime.

"He has done a great job in his time there, and they are going well again this season.

"Over the past couple of years, he's got them into the upper part of the league, on top of the cup success they have enjoyed."

"We know it will be tough, but we will be looking for another improvement in our own performance, after the improvement we saw on Tuesday."

It wasn't just McGreal thinking highly of the opposition ahead of Saturday's clash, Newport boss Flynn is making sure his side don't take the U's lightly.

In his pre-match preview, he told the Welsh club's official website:

"It’s going to be a tough place to go. On their day, Colchester are one of the best teams in the league.

"They’ve got Frank Nouble, Courtney Senior, Luke Norris, Ryan Jackson coming from the right. You could go through them all, they’re a very good team on their day.

"We know about their threats but we’re concentrating on ourselves."
