Colchester United's Youth Team have drawn 3-3 against Watford
After several creditable displays this season, the U’s Youth Team had one of their biggest tests of the season to date as they travelled to Hertfordshire to take on the Southern Division league leaders Watford.
The young Hornets had won six of their seven games this season, so it was credit to the U’s youngsters that the points were shared.
Jake Hutchinson, (pictured playing for the U23s), scored twice for Liam Bailey's youngsters, with Harry Sayers also getting on the scoresheet.
It took just seven minutes for leading goalscorer Jake Hutchinson to put the U’s ahead. He pressed a Watford defender in the right back position and after robbing him, then cut inside and beat the keeper with a fine strike down to the home player’s right hand side.
Quarter of an hour later, the home team were back on level terms but Hutchinson, who has been in superb form this season, scored again on the half hour mark.
This time, he got on the end of a left wing cross and after it was contested in the box, he scored with a shot on the turn.
It came as no surprise that it was he who was on target once more, giving the U’s the lead again. It was to be a lead that the visitors held until half time and they went in for the break deservedly ahead.
Watford came out strongly after the break and were back level on fifty seven minutes, but they weren’t level for long.
Just two minutes after the equaliser, Marley Miranda-Marshall was the provider to set up Harvey Sayer to put the U’s 3-2 ahead. It was a lead that they held onto until the table-toppers scored again right on full time.
So the young U’s had to settle for just the one point, but it was a point that should certainly give them confidence going into their next matches.
