Colchester United's youth team were beaten in an eleven goal thriller at the weekend.
The U's youngsters were always chasing after the Latics, having been behind from as early as the third minute of the game.
It was then 2-0 to the hosts before Jake Hutchinson, (pictured playing for the U's U23s), got his first of the game just before the half hour mark.
Just ten minutes later, the hosts extended the lead to 4-1 but Diogo Freitas-Gouveia kept the U's in the game with a goal four minutes from the end of the first half.
The two goal deficit was lengthened to three just seconds before half-time though, and the teams went in at the break with Wigan leading 5-2.
Hutchinson made it 5-3 on the hour mark, before a lull in the scoring ended with a flourish in the final ten minutes.
A sixth for Wigan looked like it was game over but two penalties from Hutchinson, taking his goal tally for the game to four, made the last three minutes and injury time a nervy time for the hosts.
They managed to hold on though, and take the points with the 6-5 victory.
