McGreal Not Second Guessing

Head Coach taking advice on ongoing COVID-19 issue

1 April 2020

Colchester United Head Coach John McGreal won't make predictions on remaining games.

League fixtures are currently suspended until at least the end of April due to the Coronavirus pandemic, with the U's having nine games left to complete the season.

McGreal told the Colchester Gazette: "There have been some people second guessing what’s going to happen with the end of the season but that’s not something we’ll be doing."

“We’ve been guided by our superiors at the EFL. It’s all about the health of everyone – players, family, friends, supporters.

“That’s the most important thing and sport is nowhere near as important as people’s health. Football comes second, in this situation – there’s no question about it. We have to look after the people around us with this virus.

“You only have to look to see what’s happening in Europe and around us, try and take in information from the government and the WHO, (World Health Organisation), and know how to fight off the virus as best as possible.

"You see the numbers rising and you have to be vigilant.”
