Colchester United are delighted to announce that Tommy Smith has signed for the U’s.
The experienced defender has put pen to paper on a two year deal and committed to the North Essex side following a trial period where he has been involved in a number of pre-season friendlies.
Smith joins the U’s after being released by Sunderland at the end of the season. He has previously spent time with MLS side Colorado, as well as the U’s Suffolk neighbours Ipswich Town, where he made over 200 appearances.
The central defender also has vast experience of playing on the international stage, representing New Zealand thirty-eight times, including playing for his country at the 2010 World Cup.
Tommy also has previous experience of playing for the U’s, during a loan period in the 2010/11 season, where he made six appearances in blue and white stripes.
The deal is subject to ratification from the relevant bodies.
