In Opposition: Cheltenham Town

Steve Ball's side back at home looking for reaction against the Robins

29 December 2020

The U's will line up for their final game of 2020 this evening looking for a win against high-flying Cheltenham Town at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Manager - Michael Duff

Top Scorer(s) - Liam Sercombe, Andy Williams (6)

Last Result - Cheltenham Town 1-1 Stevenage 26/12/2020

Like the U's, Cheltenham Town will be looking for a reaction this evening. The Robins have been without a win in five, with their last victory coming against Exeter City at the start of December.

But since the 5-3 win at the Johnny Rocks Stadium, Duff's side have lost three and drawn twice, with the Robins falling out of the top three in Sky Bet League Two. Local rivals Forest Green have leapfrogged them into second, with Carlisle moving up to third recently, but Cheltenham won't want to fall too far behind.

Speaking after their Boxing Day draw against struggling Stevenage, Robins boss Michael Duff called it a missed opportunity from his players.

"I'm disappointed, it was an opportunity missed. It's a bit like that at the moment, they scored from their only shot on target." - Michael Duff

"It feels like we are down on our luck a little bit at the moment, that's what I have said to the players. There is a weird feeling in the dressing room, but ultimately it was another point on the board and we are fourth in the league."

"We have been poor, but that is only because of the standards that have been set."

The Robins will likely line up in a 3-5-2 formation, a shape that Michael Duff has used in the past against the U's.

With the towering centre-halves of Tozer, Boyle and Raglan, they will be tough defensively, although they have not been hitting the same standards that were set last season.

Summer signing Liam Sercombe has hit the ground running at Cheltenham, scoring six goals from the centre of midfield after arriving from Bristol Rovers in the summer. The thirty-year-old scored his latest goal in the Robins' last game, a 1-1 draw against Stevenage.

Up front is the veteran striker Andy Williams, who had also scored six goals this season. Also a summer signing, he has played in most games for Duff's side, joined by Alfie May who scored against the U's last time Cheltenham came to the JobServe Community Stadium.
