U's boss gives his thoughts on Robins' visit

28 February 2020

Tomorrow afternoon sees the visit of Cheltenham Town to the JobServe Community Stadium.

The Robins have been in fine form of late, winnig their last four games in a row.

Managed by former Cheltenham player, Michael Duff, they have shot up the table and currently sit one place above Colchester United going in to this game.

They have proved to be one of the best defensive teams in the league, conceding in the fewest goals (twenty-seven) and losing the least games (six).

Their play-off position was cemented on Tuesday night when they ran out victorious against seventh place Northampton Town, thanks to an eighty-fifth minute winner from the veteran striker, Luke Varney.

"I'm not suprised at where they are in the legaue. From when we played them in the early part of the season it has been no suprise that they have done particularly well."

"The system they're playing suits their squad right down to earth - they've got a good few old heads in and around their squad, and a few quality players as well."

"I've known Michael Duff for years, I've played with him (at Burnely), he's done brilliantly along with Russell Milton."

It is set up to be a competitive game after the U’s got back to winning ways last weekend, taking all three points against Salford in a 2-1 win.

It was a fine defensive display in testing conditions, and U’s boss John McGreal is confident the resilience shown by his players in the second half will be needed against the high-flying Robins.

"It's now four wins on the trot. They're a hard team to break down, but on the other side, they are quite an attacking team as well. We know we are in for a tough game."

"They've knocked off some good results of late, and we don't want to be another one."

"We put up a good resilient performance last week, and we want to build on that again this week."
