McGreal and U's travel to the Valiants

14 February 2020

Colchester United will take on Port Vale on Saturday afternoon.

The U’s will travel to Vale Park looking to bounce back from the defeat to Grimsby in the week.

The hosts have been in fine form recently, unbeaten in four games, including three wins. Last time out the Valiants won 3-2 away at Forest Green, despite having two players sent off – Tom Pope and Mitch Clarke.

Vale will actually be without three players through suspension for the clash against the U’s as midfielder James Gibbons is also serving a two game ban for receiving ten yellow cards.

John Askey’s team currently sit ninth in League Two, with just a point separating them from fifth placed Colchester United.

John McGreal spoke ahead of the game: “We’ve been on a good run – if you think back we have had two defeats in four months.”

“We’ve still got really good habits that we have formed in that long unbeaten run. We are a progressive team, and in a really healthy position – we go to Port Vale, they’re in form, but we also believe we are in form.”

“John (Askey) has got them going in the right direction. He has implemented this style of play, they have got (Tom) Pope scoring goals of late, but he was sent off so John has some decisions to make.”

Tickets are available on the day at Vale Park from the away sales kiosk, but this is cash only.
