Colchester United are saddened to hear the news that Chris Barker has passed away.
Chris joined the U's on a season long loan in the summer of 2006 from Cardiff City, after the club had gained promotion from League One.
He was almost ever present in the first season in the Championship, helping the U's to a tenth place finish, with the Play-Offs a distinct possibility until the final couple of games of the campaign.
Plying his trade at left back and playing thirty eight Championship matches for the U's, he had an effective blend of combative defensive qualities and a cultured left foot and will always be remembered as one of the best full backs to play for the club.
