Carlisle United Update

U's make the long trip up north this weekend

3 March 2020

Colchester United will be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend as they take on struggling Carlisle United.

The hosts for this weekend's game picked up a rare win last time out, when they took three points at the in-form Camrbridge United.

Lewis Alessandra and Nick Anderton were on target for the Cumbrians as they won the match at the Abbey Stadium 2-1. They will be hoping that this first win in five matches will give them a boost ahead of the clash against the U's who will travel up to Brunton Park for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

The U's were beaten at home by high-flying Cheltenham Town, who have now won five games in a row, a run that includes beating Colchester's next opponents, Carlisle.

Carlisle United currently sit in twentieth position in Sky Bet League Two, seventeen points ahead of Stevenage who are bottom, and seventeen points behind Port Vale who occupy the final play-off spot - So it would seem as though the hosts for this weekend's match have little to play for.

The U's do have plenty to play for and will be looking to pick up a valuable win on the road, and could move back into the play-off places with a win.

Last time out between these two teams, it was Colchester United who ran out comfortable winners.

The home side got off to a great start when Carlisle defender Nathaniel Knight-Percival turned the ball into his own net from a Cohen Bramall cross.

Callum Harriott added to the U's goal tally by scoring his first since his return to Essex in September. Five minutes before the break he coolly tucked the ball into the bottom corner after Poku's initial effort had been parried away by the 'keeper.

Cohen Bramall also opened his Colchester United account with a spectacular free kick that dipped into the top corner in the second half.
