Community staff help out in Colchester

30 March 2020

The first week of the U's Football in the Community Outreach campaign has been a huge success.

Following the news of a national lockdown due to COVID-19, the CUFITC, (Colchester United Football in the Community), team have supported a number of local organisations on the frontline to aid in the fight against Coronavirus and ensure the local community are receiving the support needed.

Various organisations such as Colchester Foodbank, Munch Clubs, GO4 Café, Barnardo's and Catch22 have benefited from the support of the team.

Our staff and community volunteers have been taking part in food collections, food parcel deliveries, lunch deliveries for isolated young people and a food parcel collection service.

Over the past week, we have delivered over eighty lunches, provided ten hours of food collecting for the Colchester Foodbank and over twenty hours of various community outreach work.

None of this work would be possible without the support of the local organisations fronting the outreach work, our dedicated staff and our volunteers who in this difficult time are giving their time to help others.

Tom Tayler, Community Development Manager, explained: “It is important for us at an uncertain time like this to be helping our community in any way that we can, whether that be individuals or other organisations who need our support."

"It has been encouraging to see the community pulling together so positively in a time of need and we are proud to be part of that and will continue to offer our support where required to those who are vulnerable or in need.

"We will be continuing our community outreach work throughout the coming weeks and would invite any support possible from our local community.

"We have created a JustGiving page dedicated to the community outreach work and would greatly appreciate any donations no matter how small.

"All donations will be used directly to support local organisations in their work to support individuals within the local community, with any surplus fundraising being used to support those most at risk to integrate back into society once government guidelines allow."
