U's React To COVID-19 Issue

Statement from the club after games suspension

13 March 2020

Colchester United will continue to monitor situation concerning Coronavirus

In line with the EFL directive issued earlier today, Colchester United’s game with Scunthorpe United has been postponed along with our other matches until April 3rd.

Keeping our supporters, players and staff as safe and healthy as possible has always been uppermost in our thoughts and actions and we will continue to monitor the situation carefully.

General Manager Tim Waddington said of the suspension of games: “Of course it is regrettable that this decision had to be made, but it was the only real course of action that the EFL could take in ensuring the spread of COVID-19 can be delayed as well as contained as much as possible.”

“We have been assured that the situation will be monitored very closely over the next three weeks, we will certainly be monitoring it ourselves, and decisions regarding matches will be made accordingly.

"It’s an unprecedented scenario for the sporting world, and everyone’s health needs to take priority.”

Supporters are asked to be patient at this difficult time, and details concerning rearranging fixtures will be communicated in due course.

At this present time, events, functions and all Conference and Banqueting bookings at the JobServe Community Stadium will go ahead, in line with the Government guidelines announced after Thursday's COBRA meeting.
