McGreal Waiting On Return

Finish to League Two season still under discussion

1 May 2020

John McGreal is still patiently waiting for a return to football action.

The U's Head Coach has heard a number of rumours and suggestions about how that return might work, but is happy to wait for confirmed plans.

He is also keeping in contact with his staff, telling the Colchester Gazette this week: "We’ll cross that bridge when it comes to it."

"There have been lots of ideas and rumours flying around and a lot of press coverage but at the moment, I’m just waiting to see when we might come back.

"We’re continuing with our conference calls, making sure that everyone is safe because that’s the big thing.

"It’s a case of checking on the welfare of staff members, because they are critical to the club.

"When we hopefully do get a date to resume, we’ll be able to work towards things."

As well as the players having their fitness programmes to keep to in lockdown, McGreal admitted that he has found it beneficial to get his exercise whilst staying safe at home.

"We’ve had the individual programmes in place for a number of weeks now for the players and it’s about when we get the date to return.

"I’ve been doing my exercise and that helps to relieve a bit of stress.

"It’s important and we’re all creatures of habit – it’s nice to get that one hour of exercise in a day.

"It’s all about making sure that family, staff, fans and football people are all safe and abiding by the rules.
