Colchester United will line up against unfamiliar opponents in the first round of the FA Cup this season, when non-league Marine AFC visit north Essex.

Manager - Neil Young

Top Scorer(s) - Niall Cummins, 13 (all competitions)

Last Result - Marine AFC 3-2 Stalybridge Celtic, 31/10/2020

Neil Young will bring his side to north Essex to play Colchester United, with the Mariners making a first appearance in the FA Cup first round in twenty-five years. Marine's last time out in the first round ended in an 11-2 defeat to Shrewsbury Town at Gay Meadow.

Saturday's match will be the sixth in the competition this season for the visitors, having started their FA Cup run on September 12th with a 2-1 at home to Barnoldswick Town in the pre-qualifying round of the tournament.

It was a late turnaround from Young's men, who could have been out but for some late heroics. Ryan Wignall struck in the eighty-seventh minute to level the game for Marine, and Josh Hmami won it in the dying moments to put his side into the first qualifying round.

Frickley Town were dispatched in the first qualifying round with a 1-0 victory, with Runcorn Linnets taking the game to penalties before Marine came out on top in the second qualifying round.

Nantwich Town were well beaten as Young's side ran out 4-1 winners in the third qualifying round before a tie against National League North side Chester FC in the fourth and final qualifying round.

James Barrigan's eightieth-minute penalty was the difference for Marine, earning them a place in the draw for the first round proper.

Steve Ball's side will be looking to make it past the first round of the competition for the first time in five years, with thier last first round victory coming in 2015 with a 6-2 win at Wealdstone.
