Bolton Wanderers Preview

Colchester United will take on Wanderers for the first home game of the season

18 September 2020

Colchester United will be looking to get their first win of the 2020/21 campaign as they play their first home match of the season this weekend.

United will play a first league match at the JobServe Community Stadium for the first time in 203 days as Bolton Wanderers come to town.

Steve Ball's side will be looking for a first win of the season, after last weekend's competitive draw against Bradford City, with the U's boss full of praise for his side's combative performance.

"The good thing last weekend was a clean sheet. We've showed both sides of our game, and I think the boys are in a really good place at the minute."

United's head coach Ball has been doing his homework on the visitors this weekend, and is expecting Bolton to set up a certain way.

"Ian (Evatt) has done a great job at Barrow, I watched them a lot last year. A really nice fluid team, that plays 3-5-2. He's going to bring that to Bolton, and I know he will want time to do that."

The Trotters have been hotly tipped to make a swift return to League One, but have struggled so far this season, losing each of their first three.

But that will not affect the U's preparations for this weekend.

"Bolton is a club with a big expectation this year, I'm sure they've got a really nice budget to work from and they have got some really good players for this division.

"They're a team that will come with pressure, but they are a team of real quality and they will produce a test for us on Saturday."

Bolton manager, Ian Evatt will bring his side to the JobServe Community Stadium as they visit the ground for the first time ever, and it will be the first match between the two sides since 1988.

Last weekend, Evatt's side lost to Forest Green Rovers in their opening game of the league season and will be looking to put that right this weekend.
