Colchester United U23s played out a goalless draw with Charlton at the JCS, to earn a point in their second game, remaining unbeaten.
The visitors had the better of the first half, hitting the woodwork twice. Jay Mingi hit the bar with a looping cross with seven minutes to play of the first period. A minute later Vennings closed down Shamal George's clearance as it deflected onto the inside of the post before the U's were able to clear.
Sammie McLeod looked dangeroud going forwards and went closest for the home side when he lifted the ball over Harness' bar in a half of few chances.
The Addicks hit the woodwork for a third time four minutes into the second half, when James Vennings' free kick pinged off the top of the bar before gonig over.
Danny Collinge put in a fantastic challenge on the hour as Carvalho broke down the left wing, as the Addicks wide man shot across goal.
Collinge had to be alert five minutes later as he blocked a Charlton corner at the near post.
Tovide was unlucky not to open the scoring for the U's. Taylor-Crossdale knocked the ball down to him on the edge of the area but he could only screw his shot wide.
With fifteen to go, the U's really started to press the Charlton defence. Cowan-Hall's shot stung the palms of Harness, before McLeod headed wide from the recycled cross.
The game became stretched and Charlton had a good chance to take the lead with eight to play. The visitors broke down the right wing and crossed with George parrying the ball. Dempsey mis-hit his half volley wide with the goal gaping.
The best chance of the game came for the U's with seconds left to play. Samson Tovide's cross was flicked just over the bar by Jake Hutchinson with the full time whistle blowing from the resulting goal kick.
