Summer fun for local children

U's support families with Active Essex Community Summer Camps .

Working alongside Active Essex, Colchester United Football in the Community, (CUFITC), have been part of a county wide initiative to support working families with activities and food provision throughout the entire duration of the school holidays.

The U’s community team received £39,000 from Active Essex to deliver sports activities across Colchester and Tendring for children throughout July and August.

CUFITC staff have been delivering activities across Colchester and Tendring with the capacity to provide activities and a lunch snack for 120 children aged 5-11 per day that’s over 3600 spaces across the 2020 summer holidays.

Community Development Manager Tom Tayler commented on the programme, saying: "It has been fantastic to be working alongside Active Essex once again to support local communities across Essex by providing children with a range of sporting activities as well as a nutritious lunch."

"It’s been great to see the children trying new sports and making new friends whilst also enabling families to continue to work throughout this period especially considering the circumstances we have had to deal with throughout 2020 so far.

"We look forward to seeing some of these children again on our sports activities starting in September, as well as working with Active Essex and other partners to help support our local communities."
