Young U's Continue Good Start

Youth team beat QPR for third win in three

28 September 2020

Colchester United's U18s have beaten Queens Park Rangers.

The U's youngsters made it three wins in their first three matches of the new season as they cruised to a 3-0 away win against the Championship side.

A strong line up included recent first team debutant Marley Marshall-Miranda, as well as Samson Tovide who has been involved in recent matchday squads for Steve Ball's side.

The direction of the match was evident from the off with the U's high pressing tactic stealing the ball and Samson creating the first chance which Harvey Sayer couldn’t quite connect with.

The early pressure was relentless, with Sayer and Tovide creating lots of chances from the flanks. The first goal arrived on seventeen minutes from a curling effort into the bottom corner from the league's current top scorer, Tom Stagg, (pictured).

Possession was dominated from then on and QPR dropped off in order to try and regain a foothold in the match.

Half time arrived and U's goalkeeper Ted Collins' only action at the other end saw a weak shot squirming wide.

QPR showed a good reaction early in the second half and tried to stop the U's building up from the back with a higher defensive line.

That early storm was weathered by the U's though and they regained control of the game.

Stagg scoring a penalty and his second of the game after good work down the left hand channel just before teh hour mark.

The third and final goal was finished off by Harvey Sayer arriving in six yard box, following a typically powerful run from Samson Tovide down the right flank on sixty seven minutes.

That third goal effectively ended the game as a contest and the U's players managed the remainder of the game well with the passing style the academy is known for.

They now go into a  two week break from league fixtures with a 100% points return and sit top of the embryonic U18PDL South along with Charlton Athletic.

They will return to league action on 17th October at home to Wigan Athletic.
