Walsall Preview

Hayden Mullins' side back at home for key clashes

16 April 2021

With two wins from their last two games, Saturday's opponents, Walsall, pushed themselves well clear of any relegation fight heading into the final five games of the season.

A win would be vital for Hayden Mullins' side with the crunch game against Essex rivals Southend coming up next week, but all attentions must be focused on this weekend's match.

Walsall make the trip to the JobServe Community Stadium for a 5:30pm kick-off, and will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in north Essex to eight years and five matches. The last U's win at home against the Saddlers saw Jabo Ibehre and Freddie Sears hit the target in January 2013.

Following last weekend's away defeat for Colchester United at the hands of Oldham, U's boss Hayden Mullins has some challenging decisions to make about his team selection for the next match.

"It's been good to have a clear week to get Friday out of our system." - Hayden Mullins

"The boys know where we are. We've had a chat about it, and we've addressed a few of the bits and pieces which has been good, and we've had a good week's work.

"It's good that we've got two home games coming up. We are going to be positive and we will go into those games with a real positive mindset and go and attack them.

"The six points that they (Walsall) have picked up in the last week has changed it massively for them, so it should be a good game and a good test for us. We've got to make sure we are set up right and attack the game with the right game plan."
