Colchester United will come up against an unbeaten Mansfield Town side at the JobServe Community Stadium this evening looking to get their first win of the 2021/22 season.
The U's were defeated on Saturday afternoon, courtesy of a first half goal from Northampton Town in North Essex, despite an impressive and much improved second half performance.
But it was a performance that left the U's Boss, Hayden Mullins rueing their first half showing, that allowed the visitors to gain the advantage.
"We paid the price in the end for starting a bit too slow in the first half. The positive was that we finished the game really strong, we had a number of chances to get back in the game, but unfortunately it wasn't to be.
"It was a classic League Two game, with thw away team wanting to slow the game down. They wanted to take the sting out of it and it was difficult to get the game back. A couple of changes allowed us to get up the pitch higher and I thought we were more of a threat.
"Teams will hit their stride at different times. There will be teams that are winning games now that, come mid season, they will fall away a little bit. We know we are not quite there in terms of our full stride yet, but it will come. If we keep creating chances and being positive then it will come.
"The way we finished the second half against Northampton is how we know we have to start the game against Mansfield. It's a lesson, and we have to take the positives and hopefully we can start the game a lot quicker on Tuesday."
