Second-placed Stags visit JobServe Community Stadium on Tuesday evening

16 August 2021

The Stags will be in town on Tuesday evening, looking to make it three wins from three in Sky Bet League Two after overcoming Bristol Rovers and Newport County in their opening two.

Hayden Mullins and Colchester United are still looking for their first win of the season after losing the first home game on Saturday afternoon, a 1-0 defeat to Northampton Town.

But there were positive signs from the side, who just lacked that fnishing touch which would have seen them take at least a point from the game. A much improved second half performances from Mullins' men gave the home fans confidence as Mansfield Town visit North Essex on Tuesday evening.

The Opposition - Mansfield Town

Nigel Clough's side are one of just four remaining in League Two that have a 100% record from their first two games, along with Forest Green, Stevenage and last Saturday's opponents, Northampton Town.

Buoyed by their new signings hitting the ground running in the first two games, the Stags have beaten two of the pre-season League favourites in Bristol Rovers and Newport County by a scoreline of 2-1 in each game.

Each of the four goals have been scored by four different players: Danny Johnson, Oliver Hawkins, George Maris and Ollile Clarke - with the two former players making summer moved to the One Call Stadium to join Clough's side.

Danny Johnson, formerly of Leyton Orient hit twenty goals for the East London side and chose to make the move to the Stags on a free transfer, with Oliver Hawkins joining from the U's Suffolk neighbours Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

Another former local who could play their part on Tuesday evening is former Southend United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop, who left Roots Hall to join Manchester United in January 2020. He has departed Old Trafford in the summer on loan to join Mansfield Town and has started both of the two league games for the club so far.
