U's Captain excited for New Year's Day game

30 December 2021

Colchester United Captain, Tommy Smith, is looking forward to getting the New Year underway with a game on the road at Crawley in Sky Bet League Two.

The U's make the trip into Sussex on Saturday afternoon, taking on eighteenth place Crawley Town at the People's Pension Stadium, with both sides having not played since mid-December.

It's a game the squad is looking forward to, according to U's Captain Tommy Smith, who is excited to get back out on the pitch for a competitive fixture.

"This game has been a long time coming, the last game was on the 11th December. It's felt like having a winter break that we didn't really need. We wanted the games to be coming thick and fast.

"A lot of the last few games have been called off pretty late, so it changes training slightly. But it has been a little disjointed, but we've done the work as best we can.

"We're looking forward to getting back, and trying to get three points on the board. It's a cliche but every game is a tough one, but we are confident in ourselves and in our ability, and we need to start putting performances in and getting results and moving up that table."

Tickets will be on sale on the day from the hosts. Click HERE for prices and more information for the U's first game of 2022.
