11 February 2021

Current and new Thurstable Football College Male and Female students took part in their second Q&A with a Colchester United first team player. Following on from a recent Q&A with Winger Kwame Poku, Vice-Captain and experienced Centre Back Tommy Smith took part in a Zoom session sharing stories and experiences from his career.

Tommy went into detail about his time as a youth player in New Zealand and his opportunity to become a professional at Ipswich Town. He also shared his experiences playing abroad and at International level with players having the opportunity to send in questions to ask him. Tommy also touched on his education and how he has dealt with the recent lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic sharing some inspiration with the students who are all learning and training from home during this period.

Aidan Moore a current Thurstable Football College Student shared “It was great having the opportunity to hear about Tommy's experiences especially his stories about playing international football. I found this very interesting getting an insight into his life and how he balances his life as a professional footballer, enhancing his education and being the best he can be. This was very inspiring and I can’t wait to take part in the next Q&A with a Col U First team Player”

Rick Goldsbrough the Thurstable Football College Programme’s Head Coach mentioned “Thank you to Kwame and Tommy for giving up there time to speak to the students, share their experiences and give advice to these young people during their playing and learning journey with us.”
