And Doherty Makes Three

Left back added to U's squad

1 February 2021

Colchester United have made it three deadline day signings with the addition of Josh Doherty.

The Crawley Town left back has put pen to paper on a loan deal at the JobServe Community Stadium until the end of the season, subject to the relevent bodies rubber stamping the deal.

Having started his career at Watford, Josh has also played for Leyton Orient and Altrincham, before returning to his native Northern Ireland for a spell with Ards.

He was back in England with Crawley in September 2017, and made his full debut for Harry Kewell's side shortly after his arrival.

He has made almost 100 appearances for the Red Devils, including eighteen this season.

The twenty five year old has also represented Northern Ireland at U17s, U19s and U21s levels.

U's Head Coach Steve Ball said of the deal: "Once again, it's great to have got another player we identified as a target into the squad before the end of the window."

"Josh is a strong character, a decent defender and will be a real plus for us between now and the end of the season.

"He is the third of three excellent deals we got over the line in this last part of the window, and I'm looking forward to working with them all, along with Rem Oteh who signed earlier in January."
