Colchester United have signed Charlton Athletic midfielder Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu.
As well as playing across the midfield, the twenty one year is also comfortable playing at fullback or wingback.
He has signed permanently from Charlton for an undisclosed fee, but he isn't a stranger to north Essex.
In the 2019/20 campaign which finished with a Play-Off defeat against Exeter City, he had a short loan spell, making ten appearances under John McGreal.
Current Head Coach Steve Ball was McGreal's assistant at that time, so knows all about Wiredu's qualities.
He told the official website: "It's great to get Brendan over the line ahead of the run of games we have now."
"He is a superb athlete with a strong engine, and his qualities as a footballer will benefit us without a doubt.
"He's still at a great age for development, but we already know he can perform in a number of positions across midfield and defence."
Brendan has signed a contract that runs until the summer of 2022, subject to the usual approvals from relevent bodies, and it is hoped that he will be eligible for the trip to Salford on Tuesday.
