Steve Ball aims for three points in first game of 2021

15 January 2021

It will be third time lucky for Colchester United as they try and get the first game of 2021 under their belts this weekend with the visit of Cambridge United at the JobServe Community Stadium.

It should be the third game of the year for the U's, but after two consecutive postponements, Steve Ball's side will finally get the New Year underway with a home fixture against Cambridge United on Saturday afternoon.

Only just over a month ago the U's were on the road at Cambridge, where the hosts came out on top with a 2-1 win thanks to two goals from Paul Mullin. Michael Folivi was on target for the travelling side that night, but could not prevent his side from slipping to defeat.

And with the turnaround from the away fixture being so quick, Ball feels his side have something to prove against promotion chasing Cambridge United.

"It does feel a bit like a two-legged affair, having only played them a few weeks ago. I watched them last week and the big difference is Hoolahan." - Steve Ball

"He's one of the best players in the division, but he is at the other end of thirty now, but he scored and got an assist last week. The prep has been a bit different having played them so recently.

"Having another week off had been both good and bad. A two week break is good but a three week starts to stretch it a bit, but we need to get in that groove and kick-start with a win."
