Community Outreach Update

An update from the Football in the Community Team

12 January 2021

We are now well into our third national lockdown in the fight against Coronavirus and as Colchester United and Colchester United Football in the Community have done throughout this pandemic we continue to want to be part of the solution supporting individuals, organisations and communities in this time of need.

The U’s Community team is continuing its weekly Community Outreach working alongside organisations such as Colchester Foodbank and Munch Clubs Colchester helping source, organise and transport food to those most in need. Another constant for staff at Colchester United Football in the Community are the phone calls to older residents of North Essex as part of Age Concern Colchester’s befriending scheme which aims to support people who may find themselves socially isolated and lonely in current times. To date Colchester United Football in the Community have committed over 500 hours of support to their Covid-19 response work delivering over 1100 food parcels to those in need.

Whilst this current outreach work continues we are also delighted to have teamed up with Community 360 to provide staff to support vaccine administering in Colchester. CUFITC staff will support the organisation and coordination around the vaccination centre helping with bookings, temperature checking, observation as well as people flow and parking management.

Community Development Manager, Tom Tayler had this to say regarding the additional support that CUFITC were able to provide –

“As we entered the third national lockdown we wanted to ensure that as a community centred charity we were able to continue the support we had been offering since March 2020. What has been even better is that we have been able to expand that support with Community 360 and the vaccination process taking place in North Essex. We have worked with Community 360 on multiple projects and programmes over recent years and this is another fantastic example of local organisations working together to support people and communities."

Whilst we continue our current support we are keen to emphasise that we are here to support any organisation or individual throughout this period, should anyone want to contact please don’t hesitate to on 01206 755 160 or by emailing FITC@colchesterunited.net. Our JustGiving page is also still live and any donations will be used directly to support local organisations or individuals please use this link to donate - https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/cufitccoronavirussupport?utm_term=JdNrBng9B

As well as the supporting those vulnerable people through our outreach programme our Education team have also been busy working alongside schools to help any needs they may have during these times, should you need any support around home schooling materials please also get in touch as we would be happy to help where possible.
