The Colchester United squad was back at Florence Park on Thursday.
Pre-season training proper might start next Monday, but there was plenty of work to be done for Hayden Mullins' players when they returned to the training ground this week.
There were indoor strength, power and flexibility tests, as well as a range of sprint tests on the grass.
Testing was overseen by Physio Greg Barnes and Head of Sports Science Kem Ismail, with the warm weather making things even tougher than they would have been in recent days.
We caught up with Kem once the group was finished, and he was pleased with the first day's work.
He explained: "The lads have looked like they've really looked after themselves over the off-season, even the lads who weren't with us last year. Those guys look like they have been keeping up with it all and they've obviously been in a couple of times over the off-season as well."
"We split them into little groups inside for covid regulations and they did a whole array of testing.
"They did basic mobility tests, overhead squats, bike stuff, jumping tests and some physio tests for specific muscle groups."
"They've come in looking really good, some of them better than we thought, and it's all been positive."
