Watford Preview

U's taking on newly promoted Premier League side in second friendly

16 July 2021

Hayden Mullins will return to his old stomping ground for the U's next friendly as his side take on Watford at the Hornets' training ground.

Mullins made the switch from the Hornets in the summer of 2020 to become assistant under Steve Ball for last season, but a year on and he is in charge and looking to put his own stamp on the U's.

With Hayden and new assistant, Alex Dyer, at the helm, the U's were victorious in their opening friendly of the season, with a 3-0 win over Billericay Town on Tuesday evening.

Saturday will be an altogether different test for Hayden's side though. There are two sixty-minute friendlies scheduled for Saturday (11am and 3pm), giving both teams the chance to try things across the two fixtures. Tuesday's friendly against Billericay saw two different U's teams, one in the first half, one in the second, so this weekend's games will see a fifteen minute increase from that game.

And with just over three weeks until the beginning of the new season, it will give the U's management team a chance to tinker with their squad to see how the team is starting to gel together after 7 new signings.

With the fixture being played behind closed doors, updates will be provided on the games, as well as a match report for each uploaded to the website shortly after each fixture.

At the request of Watford FC, no photos or videos will be taken at their training ground.
